2014 has seen some of the best snowfall at Marmot Basin in recent history.
Over the past 48 hours we have received almost 40cm of new snow; with still more forecast for the coming days.
This follows the remarkable 36cm that fell overnight on January 3rd. In less than 12 hours, the ski area was transformed into a haven for powder lovers, and the snow continued to fall throughout most of the day. President and CEO, Dave Gibson, hit the nail on the head when he said: “This is the mother lode everyone’s been waiting for”.
Dennis Williams, Marmot’s Assistant Grooming Supervisor, worked an extra-long shift through the night on January 2nd, packing down what he could in the midst of the heaviest snowfall of the season. He estimated there could have been as much as 50 cm of new snow in the upper area, as it was deeper than the tracks on his groomer are tall. In fact, there was so much new snow that the terrain park was closed; the features and all the rails were completely buried!
These large snowfalls, along with consistent smaller contributions have combined to give us over 90cm since the 1st January 2014.
Happy New Year everyone! Come out and enjoy these amazing conditions.
